Course Description

Plan, deploy and manage OpenShift clusters as needed

In the Red Hat OpenShift Administration III: Scaling Kubernetes Deployments in the Enterprise (DO380) course, you will develop the skills needed to plan, deploy, and manage OpenShift® clusters in the enterprise. Additionally, you will learn to work with more and more stakeholders, and with more applications and users, to enable large-scale deployments.

The course is based on Red Hat® OpenShift Container Platform 4.5.

Summary of course content

  • Add and manage OpenShift cluster operators
  • Use Ansible® playbooks to automate OpenShift management tasks
  • Generate and schedule cluster management tasks
  • Deploy GitOps Workflows with Jenkins
  • Integrate OpenShift with enterprise authentication
  • Query and view indicators, alerts, and logs for the entire cluster
  • Manage both shared and file-based storage and non-shared and block storage
  • Manage machine sets and their configurations

Audience to which the course is directed

  • Cluster engineers (system administrators, cloud administrators, or cloud engineers) who focus on planning, designing, and deploying OpenShift clusters for production. These engineers need automation skills to scale staffing levels, enabling them to prepare and manage a growing set of applications, users, and clusters, and ensure that clusters comply with company standards.
  • Site Reliability Engineers (SREs) whose primary goal is to run OpenShift applications and clusters without interruption. These engineers focus on troubleshooting infrastructure and application problems with OpenShift clusters, and need automation skills to reduce the time it takes to identify, diagnose, and resolve problems.

    Recommendations for the course

    • Take the course Red Hat OpenShift Administration II: Operating a Production Kubernetes Cluster (DO280) and obtain certification Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Administration.
    • Successfully complete the Red Hat System Administration II (RH134) course and obtain accreditation Red Hat Certified System Administrator.
    • It is recommended to have accreditations Red Hat Certified Systems Engineer either Red Hat Certified Specialist in Ansible Automation, but not required. Basic knowledge of how to write and run Ansible playbooks is required.

    Technology requirements

    • You will need an Internet connection that allows you to access a cloud learning environment, which offers an OpenShift cluster and a remote workstation for administrators.
    • Furthermore, the learning environment must be able to access the Red Hat registry, Red Hat Quay and GitHub.
    • You will also need to have free personal GitHub accounts.

    Course content

    Moving from Kubernetes to OpenShift

    • To demonstrate the equivalence between OpenShift and Kubernetes, deploy applications originally built in Kubernetes to this platform.

    Implementing automation in OpenShift

    • Automate OpenShift administration tasks using Bash scripts and Ansible playbooks.

    Operator management with OpenShift

    • Deploy Kubernetes operators and configure OpenShift cluster operators.

    GitOps implementation with Jenkins

    • Use the containerized Jenkins server to manage an OpenShift cluster and deploy GitOps flows.

    Configuring enterprise authentications

    • Integrate OpenShift with enterprise identity providers.

    Configuring trusted TLS certificates

    • Configure OpenShift with trusted TLS certificates, so that external resources can access applications and services in the cluster.

    Configuring Exclusive Sets of Nodes

    • Add nodes to an OpenShift cluster with custom configurations that fit special workloads.

    Permanent storage configuration

    • Configure storage providers and classes to ensure that users in the cluster can access persistent storage.

Management of indicators and supervision of clusters

    • Configure and manage the OpenShift monitoring stack.

    Deploy and inspect cluster logs

    • Deploy cluster registries, query them as necessary, and troubleshoot them.

    Recovery of failed worker nodes

    • Analyze worker nodes and identify and resolve issues related to various error scenarios.
