The Linux Professional Institute has updated its Linux Essentials certification to keep it aligned with technological evolution and the skills demanded by organizations and professionals starting their journey in Linux and open source software. As a preliminary phase to the update, LPI made a beta version of the exam available to the community between August 15 and September 15, 2026.

The final Linux Essentials 2.0 exam will be available starting October 15, 2026, the date of the exam's release. The Linux Essentials 2.0 study material will also be available from that same date. The materials and exams for Linux Essentials 1.6 (LE 1.6) and Linux Essentials 2.0 (LE 2.0) will coexist until the end of April 2027.

A key certification for getting started with Linux

The Linux Essentials certification has established itself as one of the most recognized entry points into the Linux ecosystem. It is aimed at professionals who wish to acquire a solid foundation in Linux system administration, command line, open source, basic security, and the fundamentals of Linux environments.

The Linux Essentials 2.0 version allows candidates to acquire knowledge aligned with the technologies and environments currently used in businesses. It is an excellent option for those who wish to start a professional career in areas such as system administration, DevOps, cloud computing, or cybersecurity.
